Three Vignettes
by Peri Champoux
Bumble Bee Ballet
The bumblebees outside my window nosedive
off the birdhouse into broken sticks.
They come and go through plants
like a yellow crayon failing to find a path through a child’s maze.
Pirouetting between the lavender, cha-chaing across the grass,
doing the Macarena under the droopy rose stems.
The bumble bees end their ballet with a graceful
crash into the sunflower as their audience of one
picks a hangnail until it bleeds.
Hum of the Air Conditioning
The sound hums and swirls in the heat.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzshwwwwwwwwwwzzzzzz.
The afternoon
drags
on.
Garage Spiders
Garage spiders
covered in saw dust
rolling around in fly guts
doodle curses in their webs
soaked in bug spray.
